In the lame-duck session of Congress ahead of Republicans taking over the House after retaking control during the November midterms, the Democrat-controlled chamber included billions more dollars in a massive $1.7 trillion dollar ‘omnibus’ spending package to hire a small army of IRS agents and staff — 87,000, to be exact — over the next decade.
The reason, party members claimed, was so that the federal government would be better equipped to go after “wealthy tax cheats” who allegedly plot every year how to cheat the government (and the American people) out of tax money.
That’s a lie, of course, and a demonstrable one, as a study published earlier this week by researchers at Syracuse University has proven; turns out the Biden regime, especially, uses the IRS as a weapon against working men and women. More on that later.
To prevent that kind of abuse, however, a Republican lawmaker from Georgia, Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter, has introduced legislation that would essentially neuter the IRS and dramatically reduce the size (and power) of the agency because of a massive simplification of the tax code, which now is extremely complex and has led to the creation of an entire industry of ‘tax professionals’ whose job it is to sort it all out.
Carter, on Tuesday, “introduced H.R. 25, the Fair Tax Act, to replace the current tax code with a national consumption tax known as the Fair Tax,” according to a press release from his office.
“Cosponsoring this Georgia-made legislation was my first act as a Member of Congress and is, fittingly, the first bill I am introducing in the 118th Congress,” said Carter. “Instead of adding 87,000 new agents to weaponize the IRS against small business owners and middle America, this bill will eliminate the need for the department entirely by simplifying the tax code with provisions that work for the American people and encourage growth and innovation. Armed, unelected bureaucrats should not have more power over your paycheck than you do.”
Several of the bill’s co-sponsors also offered their thoughts on the measure.
“As a former small business owner, I understand the unnecessary burden our failing income tax system has on Americans. The Fair Tax Act eliminates the tax code, replaces the income tax with a sales tax, and abolishes the abusive Internal Revenue Service. If enacted, this will invigorate the American taxpayer and help more Americans achieve the American Dream,” added Rep. Jeff Duncan.
“I support the Fair Tax because it simplifies our tax code. This transforms the U.S. tax code from a mandatory, progressive, and convoluted system to a fully transparent and unbiased system which does away with the IRS as we know it. It is good for our economy because it encourages work, savings, and investment. Thank you to my colleague Rep. Buddy Carter for leading this effort to simplify the system for American taxpayers,” Rep. Bob Good offered.
“I’m very proud to once again co-sponsor the FairTax Act,” Rep. Kat Cammack noted as well. “We’ve seen a continued growth of the IRS and a persistent punishment of hardworking Americans via the tax code. What we’re calling for is a simplified and fair code that works for all, not just some. I urge my colleagues to support this commonsense legislation that fights back against the weaponization of the IRS and stops punishing those who work hard to succeed.”
As for the Syracuse study, Fox News reported that the IRS behaves exactly the opposite of what Democrats claim, which is typical:
A study of 2022 IRS tax audit data found that a taxpayer in the lowest income bracket is five times more likely to face an audit than would a member of the highest income bracket.
Translation: Poorer working Americans got their tax returns audited five times more often than millionaire earners, proving again that Democrats are the party of tyranny, power, and money.
